Course Information
This course is appropriate for people who are either employed in, or intending to become employed in, nominated occupational first aider roles. It is delivered in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines, relevant state/territory Work Health and Safety Regulatory Authority requirements, safe work practices, and first aid code of practice.
The course provides simulated real-life scenarios for a set of skills to provide advanced first aid, oxygen therapy, advanced resuscitation, ongoing monitoring and care after treatment, handover of the casualty to emergency services and incident debriefing or evaluation to improve future operations, address individual needs recognising psychological impacts and seeking help as required.
Participants learn to develop and maintain first aid action plans in consultation with relevant parties, undertake a risk assessment to establish, maintain and facilitate the provision of appropriate first aid in a workplace environment, follow manufacturer’s instructions and complete documentation including checklists for stocking and maintaining equipment such as resuscitation and oxygen equipment and first aid kits.

An individual undertaking this course with Allens Training Pty Ltd will need to demonstrate the following to be eligible for entry:
An official form of photo identification (e.g., driver’s licence, passport, or student ID).
Physical capability to be able to meet the demands of the practical demonstration skills including CPR*
To successfully complete this course, students will need to demonstrate the following language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLND) skills during training and assessment:
Learning: Follow detailed instructions, reflect on what I’ve learned, and use my knowledge to make decisions in high-pressure situations.
Reading: Read and understand first aid guidelines, safety procedures, and equipment instructions.
Writing: Clearly write reports, fill in incident forms, and record accurate first aid information.
Oral communication: Speak clearly and confidently when giving instructions, asking questions, or providing updates during emergencies.
Numeracy: Use numbers to check times, count compressions, read vital signs, or measure oxygen flow if needed.
Digital Literacy: Able to use a mobile phone or basic device to read messages, follow online instructions, complete online forms or access learning resources
*Important note: In order to issue an accredited certificate, CPR must be performed on the floor with no exemptions.
Online learning: Students must have basic digital literacy skills to navigate online platforms, complete assessments, and access course materials. Before enrolment, students should assess their ability to engage in online learning. Support is available where required. The online learning program can be found in the student portal. Students must have access to a computer, smart phone, tablet or other electronic device with access to the internet to complete the online studies and associated assessment tasks.
Delivery mode: Online with face-to-face - The online pre-course learning and theory assessment is expected to take approximately 8 hours to complete. These timeframes are estimates. Individuals with prior experience in similar training may complete the online component in less time, while those new to the subject may need more time to complete all the learning content and theory questions.

Performance tasks and practical scenarios:
Perform CPR on an adult (incl. single and two-rescuer CPR, using a bag-valve-mask, select and insert an appropriate airway adjunct, manage oxygen equipment and use an AED to deliver at least one shock)
Place a casualty into the recovery position
Complete a first aid incident report form based on a simulated first aid scenario
Perform CPR on an infant
Manage a casualty with anaphylaxis
Manage a casualty with asthma
Manage a choking casualty
Manage a casualty with non-life-threatening bleeding requiring minor wound cleaning
Manage a casualty with a nosebleed
Manage a casualty with a fracture and dislocation
Manage a casualty with a sprain and strain
Manage a casualty with envenomation (snake/ funnel-web spider bite)
Coordinate a multiple casualty incident
Manage a casualty with a life-threatening bleed and shock and provide oxygen
Complete a first aid incident report form based on the life-threatening bleed scenario
Maintain resuscitation equipment
Conduct a workplace risk assessment
Develop a first aid response plan including strategies for management of incidents
Use a first-aid checklist to service a workplace first aid kit for supplies’ replacement and equipment maintenance
Theory assessment: A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice and short answer questions.

We recommend students complete the online learning before attending the practical assessment. This is even more important if it is the first time completing training in your specific course. We understand life can get busy and some students may not have time or have extenuating circumstances. Please let your trainer know if you are yet to complete the online learning. If students are unable to fully complete the online learning before the practical assessment they will have 60 days to finish before the course is abandoned and students will have to book another course.

Online learning times vary depending on the course. Most students complete online learning for short courses like Provide CPR in 30-45 minutes. More advanced courses like Provide First Aid will take most students 2-3 hours to complete. You don’t have to complete the online learning in one session. You can work through it at your own pace.
